The Design Edition also came fitted with a number of other options as standard – rear boot spoiler (normally a £330 option), sports leather steering wheel and wind deflector preparation. These are obviously in addition to the generous SE spec, which includes digital climate control, cruise control, remote central locking alarm, electric windows all round, power hood, electric heated wing mirrors, steering wheel mounted stereo controls, headlight wash/wipe etc. Over and above the Design Edition spec, this car was also supplied with over £2,000 of options, which includes heated driver and passenger seats (£235), electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats (driver’s with memory settings) (£1,115), traction control (£245), upgraded 6 speaker 160W stereo (£220) and upgraded “twin aero” 17” alloy wheels (£350). It also comes with a mesh wind deflector, which works brilliantly (a further £350 when new) and padded bag to keep it safe in the boot, plus a rear bumper protector roll up mat, which folds out when loading the boot, or can be removed and used as a picnic rug. The tool kit is also complete and there is a Saab warning triangle. The car has also been fitted with a couple of handling modifications, which make a real difference to the way the car handles over a standard turbo convertible – a stiffened rear anti-roll bar and the Parts for Saabs steering clamp and brace kit (this is a particularly good modification, which is regularly recommended on many blogs and reviews). The car also comes supplied with a Speedparts high flow induction air filter. I did fit this, but then went back to the original as the induction version makes a noticeable “whooshing” sound when you accelerate and I preferred the quieter option! The car is also fitted with rear parking sensors, so parallel parking is very straightforward. The blue mohair hood (a further £95 option) is in excellent, fully operational, condition, having had a full Renovo deep clean, re-colour and Ultraproofer treatment (2 coats) in July 2010. She comes with a full service history (9 Saab main dealer stamps from North City Saab in the service book – PD at 10 miles, and then at 6,045, 18,221, 28,107, 38,366, 45,127, 53,480, 61,172 and 68,970 miles, and 3 local/independent garage stamps since - at 75,850, 76,104 and 76,366 miles – the most recent at TDC, who are an independent Saab specialist, last month). The previous owner (who owned the car from new), also confirmed that during his ownership everything that was notified to him by the main dealer when it was serviced, was done. On purchasing the car the sump was dropped and the oil strainer and sump were cleaned out – something that is recommended at approximately 75K miles. Additionally, I had the SID and ACC units refurbished, with new screens, as both had lost a few pixels. They are therefore both now clear and complete (and backed by a lifetime guaranteed from SIDMaster). I have also had the alarm control unit rebuilt with new components and back up battery – something else that needs to be done when these cars get to about 10 years old. This also has a lifetime guarantee. She also had new brake disks and pads all round in June 2011 (less than 500 miles ago), the brake fluid changed when serviced in May 2011 and the cooling system flushed and refilled when serviced last month. She also comes with a fresh MOT, which runs through to 15 April 2013 and there is also 6 months tax. I would describe the overall condition of the bodywork as excellent, with only a few very small surface scratches and paint chips, and far fewer than I would expect for a 10 year old car. The door, bonnet and rear wing cavities have also been given a liberal dose of Dynax S-50, which is a high performance corrosion inhibitor. The rear underbody, and all four wheel arches have been treated with Dynax UB, which is the equivalent product for high impact areas. The leather interior is in great condition, with only some minor wear on the front seats. During my ownership the leather has been treated regularly with Gliptone conditioner, so it’s supple and has a nice soft sheen. The carpets are also very good, with a nearly new set of original Saab overmats in the footwells. All the trim items are intact/working. Hopefully the photos I have taken will help you get an idea of the car’s condition. Finally, I should say that the service book comes in its original blue leather folder, together with the owner’s handbook, and there is also a plastic Saab folder with various other dealer supplied paperwork, receipts for various items and a 2001 model year brochure for the convertible model (plus price list). There is also a Haynes manual. There are two Saab ignition keys, one of which had a new battery for the remote operation in 2010, and a spare battery ready for the other one. There’s really very little to report on the negative side, with only a couple of very minor bumper scrapes (which are hardly noticeable). There were also some minor advisories on the most recent MoT – slight corrosion on the rear brake pipe ferrules, slight sidewall damage to one of the tyres and a nail in another one (which has since been removed, and the tyre repaired). The alloys also have a few minor curb marks on them, but far less than you would expect on a 10 year old car (I suspect that they have been refurbished at some time during their life). I am going to be sorry to sell this car as it has provided me with enjoyable and trouble free motoring, but I have decided it is time to get the Triumph Stag that I have always wanted! Though the Saab is as practical a cabriolet as you can get with 4 seats, good boot space, diesel engine and up to 50mpg!, it just isn`t baby friendly. So the long drives to the south of France have been traded for more local holidays hence the family car and caravan. The car has covered nearly 76,000 miles with 11 months MOT, 5 months tax and full service history including (recently) the expensive all important major cam belt service. This should be taken into account if your looking to buy one of these, as although a lower mileage example may seem like a better deal/price, bear in mind that this service will cost up to £1000 at a Vauxall dealership. It`s the 07 model with the upgraded facelift dashboard compared to the 06 model. The car is completely standard apart from a top of the range voice activated BURY bluetooth. This was proffesionaly installed and will connect to your phone, ipod/pad, mp3 etc. It even reads your incoming texts aloud (which we have had much childish fun with). The only MOT advisory was two tyres being near limit and stiff gear selector due to the lack of recent use (a common fault also worth bearing in mind). This has been rectified at a garage by removing and lubricating the linkage cables. All paperwork log book, service book, receipts, user manual and spare key are present.The only known fault is a 5" long crease on the bonnet just to the right of the badge (see pic). This is a good solid old Saab, there is some rust around the O/S/R and O/S/F wheel arches which I have tried to pick out in the photo’s I have also tried to show the worst of the paint blemishes. She’s not perfect but then she is not a new car, still a lot of motor for £700. | According to the MOT history the mileage in 2006 was 85,910, 2007 mileage 88,618 then in 2008 the mileage jumps to 221,518 then 2009 mileage is 222,197 current mileage is 226,554. Obviously someone changed the speedo in 2008, the style of the speedo differs slightly from the rest of the gauges so I think it from a later car. The clock has been replaced with a rev counter but I have the original clock if you want to put it back. I have given this Sporty Saab Diesel Saloon a thorough test drive over the last 2 weeks and have travelled around 100 miles overall and I cannot fault it in any way, it starts, drives and stops as it should. It is Extremely Practical and one of the most Comfortable cars I have owned. It is also very Economical it produces on average 40 MPG and a little more when on the motorway, that is what I achieved when travelling to West Yorkshire this week, this vehicle did a 50 mile trip up the motorway and performed effortlessly, it will overtake without issue and the power from the 2.2 Diesel unit is there when needed. No issues at all! On start up the engine is quiet and sounds positive, it revs freely and is very eager to pull in every gear. The Steering and handling are perfect, you turn the wheel and it instantly responds there is no sign of wheel wobble or drift here. The brakes are sharp and brought me to a swift stop and in a straight line. The gearbox is fine, all gears are selected with ease and the clutch is just above halfway. 1 point to mention on test drive there is a slight noise when setting of or accelerating which sounds like a loose mount, it doesn’t affect the drive but you can hear it. To be honest when behind the wheel the only way of telling this Saabs mileage is by looking at the odometer (139k), it feels as tight as a drum and is a true testament to its Previous Keepers. Overall this is a Superb example of the ever so popular Saab 9-5 TID, it looks and drives Fantastic and is the Flagship Model (Vector). You will not be disappointed. I really cannot fault this vehicle. Please take into consideration that this car isn`t new, there is some minor blemishes as expected and everything stated is my opinion which may differ from yours so a viewing is highly recommended. The drive performance and the build quality is exactly what you would expect from a 2.2 TID Saab, it`s Reliable, Practical and Full of Extras, these TID’s are a joy to drive and would suit any kind of driver, this 2.2 TID Manual example feels very responsive when you put your foot down, there is no sluggishness or signs of hesitation felt. The sport suspension is firm and the car handles well with crisp and precise steering, it really does stick to the road like glue.
